THE EFFECT OF ROSE OIL AROMATHERAPY INHALATION ON PRIMARY DYSMENORRHEA IN ADOLESCENT WOMEN

AT SMA NEGERI 1 NEGERI BESAR WAY KANAN REGENCY IN 2023

 

Primary dysmenorrhea this is because the hormonal cycle experienced by adolescents is not stable enough, and they do not often experienced frequent uterine contractions like young adult women. In Indonesia, the incidence of dysmenorrhea is 64.25%, consisting of 54.89% primary dysmenorrhea and 9.36% secondary dysmenorrhea (2022). One of  the non-pharmacological treatments that can be used to treat dysmenorrhea is rose oil aromatherapy. The chemical substance linalool in rose oil is active when used through inhalation which has many benefits, namely increasing alertness, calming, anti-anxiety, stress management and overcoming sleep disorders. Roses are antidepressants so they can make the soul calm. Rose aromatherapy is well used to treat dysmenorrhea because rose aromatherapy has calming properties so it has a relaxing effect on the central nervous system. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of rose oil aromatherapy inhalation on primary dysmenorrhea in adolescents women at SMA Negeri 1 Negeri Besar, Way Kanan Regency, in 2023.Quantitative research type. Quasy experimental research design. Nonequivalent control group research design. This research was conducted from February 3 to July 5, 2023. The study population was all adolescent women at SMA Negeri 1 Negeri Besar who have dysmenorrhea. The sampling technique used purposive sampling of 40 respondents. Univariate and bivariate data analysis using independent t-test.Obtained an average of dysmenorrhea in the intervention group before being given an intervention of 61.95 and after the intervention was 13.95. while the average in the control group was 68.90 pretest and 31.50 posttest. The independent t-test statistical test results obtained a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05). There is an effect of inhalation of rose oil aromatherapy on primary dysmenorrhea in adolescent women at SMA Negeri 1 Negeri Besar, Way Kanan Regency in 2023. It can be used as a new insight into the use of rose aromatherapy in the health sector in reducing menstrual pain. So that it can be used as an alternative non-pharmacological treatment in reducing pain during menstruation in adolescent women.
