Abstrak

Infants aged 6-23 months experience the highest mortality due to diarrhea, with a diarrhea prevalence of 11.0% in infants in 2018, which is higher than the 2.4% in 2013 (SDKI, 2017). Diarrhea prevalence in Indonesia is 270 per 1,000 people of all ages (Rapid Survey Diare 2015). The objective of this research is to examine the relationship between socio-demographic factors (maternal education, place of residence, and wealth quintile) and the occurrence of diarrhea in children. The study employs a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. The population includes all children aged 6-59 months in the Lampung province, totaling 413 children, of which 380 were selected as samples. The results of the data analysis on the relationship between socio-demographic characteristics of respondents and the occurrence of diarrhea reveal that a significant association exists with maternal education at p = 0.048 (p < 0.005). However, no significant relationship is observed between children and wealth quintile with a p-value of 0.87 (p > 0.05). Recommendations from this study include providing Health Education for mothers, particularly teenage mothers, focusing on education and knowledge enhancement, as well as advocating for female marriage at a minimum age of 20 years.
